Photo Gallery of flooding in Marengo, IA. Taken By: Matt Hacker on 06/05/2008. Read article following pictures.
As most people know. The midwest has been HAMMERED with a lot of horrible weather in the last two weeks. Tornados, hail, heavy rain, etc… Marengo, IA is located at the North side of Iowa County. The Iowa River runs through it and is basically taking over the town now because of flooding. I took some pictures of the flooding and you can take a look at them by clicking here. Those pictures were taken 06/05/2008. The Iowa River is still rising and will continue to as it is supposed to rain for the next 7 days.
One of the worst floods, if not the worst, that Iowa has ever seen was in 1993. The way that this year is shaping up, we could be looking at another 1993. I know that the fishing that year was horrible on the Iowa River around Marengo, where it is normally very good. I hope to God that this year doesn’t turn into 1993. If I could describe that year in one word, it would be “Horrific”.
GazetteOnline.com has put together a bunch of pictures from the Flood of 1993. You may click here to view them. Whatever happens this year with the flooding happens. There is nothing that any of us can do about it. But I do know one thing. The way that Iowans are, I know that we all will pull together and help others out where help is needed. That is what living in Iowa is all about. Small town people helping out other small town people. I love living in Iowa.
