Mushroom Hot Spots

There are a lot of people that do not know where they should be looking for mushrooms. I will share what I have been told, but I encourage others to share what they know as well.

  • Generally, North facing hills tend to be one hot spot to find mushrooms. This year however, I have heard that a lot of mushrooms are being found on East facing hills. I don’t know for sure if it is because of the messed up weather that we had this winter and early Spring, but that is what I have been told.
  • Always look around Elms. Whether they are dead or alive, Elm trees are generally a good place to find Morels. From my experiences, I have always found more around dead Elms, rather than ones that are living.
  • When looking on hillsides, look very carefully towards the bottom of hills. Not at the very bottom, but pretty close to it.
  • Look close along the sides of creek’s or stream’s. Morels like to grow along creeks. Not in the water, but along the sides of the creek or stream. They grow off of the water that runs into the creeks, and also from the sun that shines on those side-hills during the day.

Last one….

  • Always keep your eyes open no matter where you are. Morels are weird in the fact that you might be mowing your lawn and next to a building you could look down that there is a mushroom. It doesn’t happen too often and when you do find one, there is probably only going to be one there; not a bunch.

Where do other people look when hunting for mushrooms?!?!?!?
